Why this Workshop?

Social movements are key to upholding the rule of law in a democracy, serving as the heartbeat of resistance against injustice. With land, labour, and forest rights increasingly handed over to corporate interests by the state, grassroots activists stand as vital guardians, uniting communities to build strong, democratic movements. In an era dominated by the rise of capitalism, we see the exponential growth of gross and violent exploitation, dispossessing land, plunging workers into precarity, and reinforcing caste hierarchies that deny dignity and rights. This workshop offers a vital space to strengthen your role in this ongoing struggle, empowering you to protect and reclaim the constitutional values that define our nation.

Who is it for?

This workshop is for young human rights defenders engaged in grassroots work and those passionate about justice in land, forest, labour, and anti-caste issues. It’s ideal for anyone looking to deepen their perspective and understanding  and skills to support community efforts.

What to Expect?

Over six days, participate in interactive sessions, discussions, and activities such as ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’. Learn strategies for community mobilization, gain insights into legal and policy-frameworks, and connect with others. A panel of experienced lawyers, academics, and activists will guide you in applying constitutional values to your work.

Facilitators:

Led by respected figures including Prashant Bhushan Adv., Gayatri Singh Sr. Adv., Shalini Gera Adv., Prof. Babu Mathew, Asst. Prof. Sivamanithan, Shomona Khanna, Adv., Tehmina Arora, Adv., Nikhil Dey, Mohammad Chappalwala, Fatema Chappalwala, Purbayan Chakraborty, Adv., and others, with extensive experience in law, academia, and activism.

December 26 – 31, 2025 at Sambhavanaa Institute, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. (A fully residential program.)

Fees & Scholarships:

The participation fee is ₹6,000, covering food and accommodation, payable upon selection. Limited full and partial scholarships are available on a first-come, rolling basis.

This workshop is more than a training, it’s a vital opportunity to build essential skills, forge lasting networks, and reimagine justice deeply rooted in the Constitution’s promise. From the anti-colonial struggles that birthed our republic, to landmark movements like the Narmada Bachao Andolan, the Bhopal gas tragedy survivors’ fight, and ongoing anti-caste campaigns led by Dalit and Adivasi communities, people have successfully built coalitions to snatch bargaining power from those in authority. By uniting workers, farmers, and marginalized groups, these movements have negotiated reforms, secured rights, and challenged systemic inequities, proving that collective action can transform power dynamics and reclaim dignity for the oppressed.

यह कार्यशाला क्यों?

सामाजिक आंदोलन लोकतंत्र में क़ानून और न्याय को ज़िंदा रखने का काम करते हैं और ये अन्याय के ख़िलाफ़ आवाज़ उठाने की सबसे बड़ी ताकत होते हैं। आज जब सरकार ज़मीन, मज़दूरी और जंगल जैसे अधिकारों को बड़ी-बड़ी कंपनियों के हवाले कर रही है, तब ज़मीनी स्तर पर काम करने वाले कार्यकर्ता समाज को जोड़कर मज़बूत लोकतांत्रिक आंदोलन खड़ा कर रहे हैं। पूंजीवाद के बढ़ते असर के साथ-साथ शोषण भी तेज़ी से बढ़ रहा है — लोग अपनी ज़मीन से बेदखल हो रहे हैं, मज़दूरों को असुरक्षित हालात में काम करना पड़ रहा है, और जातिगत भेदभाव पहले से ज़्यादा मज़बूत हो रहा है, जिससे लोगों की गरिमा और उनके अधिकार छीने जा रहे हैं। ऐसे समय में यह कार्यशाला एक ज़रूरी मंच है, जो आपके संघर्ष की भूमिका को और मज़बूत बनाएगा और आपको संविधान में दिए गए हमारे अधिकारों और मूल्यों की रक्षा करने और उन्हें वापस हासिल करने की ताकत देगा।

यह किसके लिए है?

यह कार्यशाला उन युवाओं के लिए है जो जमीनी स्तर पर काम कर रहे हैं या जो ज़मीन, जंगल, मज़दूरी और जातिविरोधी संघर्षों में न्याय को लेकर गंभीर हैं। यह कार्यशाला उन सभी के लिए एक अच्छा अवसर है जो इन मुद्दों पर अपनी सोच, समझ और काम करने की क्षमता को और गहराई से विकसित करना चाहते हैं, ताकि वे समुदाय के संघर्षों को मज़बूती से समर्थन दे सकें।

आपको क्या अनुभव मिलेगा? 

छह दिनों की इस कार्यशाला में आप सत्रों, बातचीत और ‘थिएटर ऑफ़ द ऑपरेस्ड’ जैसी गतिविधियों में हिस्सा लेंगे। यहां आप यह सीखेंगे कि समुदाय को कैसे संगठित किया जाए, क़ानून और नीतियों को कैसे समझें, और अलग-अलग हिस्सों से आए लोगों से कैसे जुड़ें। वकीलों, शिक्षकों और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं की एक टीम आपको यह दिशा देगी कि अपने काम में संविधान के मूल मूल्यों को कैसे अपनाया जाए।

इस कार्यशाला का नेतृत्व देश के सम्मानित व्यक्तित्व करेंगे, जिनमें शामिल हैं प्रशांत भूषण (वकील), गायत्री सिंह (सीनियर वकील), शालिनी गेरा (वकील), प्रो. बाबू मैथ्यू, असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर शिवमणिथन, शोमोना खन्ना (वकील), तहमीना अरोड़ा (वकील), निखिल डे, मोहम्मद चप्पलवाला, फातेमा चप्पलवाला पूर्वायन चक्रवर्ती (वकील) और अन्य साथी, जो क़ानून, शिक्षा और सामाजिक आंदोलन के क्षेत्र में लंबे अनुभव के साथ काम कर रहे हैं।

कब और कहाँ: 26 से 31 दिसंबर, 2025 को संभावना संस्थान, पालमपुर, हिमाचल प्रदेश में। (यह पूरी तरह से आवासीय कार्यक्रम है।)

शुल्क और छात्रवृत्तियाँ: भागीदारी शुल्क  6,000 है, जिसमें भोजन और आवास शामिल हैं, जो चयनित होने पर देना होगा। सीमित पूर्ण और आंशिक छात्रवृत्तियाँ उपलब्ध हैं, जो पहले आओ पहले पाओ के आधार पर दी जाएंगी।

यह कार्यशाला एक प्रशिक्षण से कहीं अधिक है, यह आवश्यक कौशल विकसित करने, स्थायी नेटवर्क बनाने, और संविधान के वादे में गहराई से जमी न्याय की पुनर्कल्पना करने का एक महत्वपूर्ण अवसर है। हमारे गणराज्य के जन्म के पीछे के औपनिवेशिक विरोधी संघर्षों से लेकर, नर्मदा बचाओ आंदोलन जैसे ऐतिहासिक आंदोलनों, भोपाल गैस त्रासदी के पीड़ितों के संघर्ष, और दलित और आदिवासी समुदायों द्वारा चलाए जा रहे सतत् जातिगत भेदभाव के खिलाफ अभियानों तक, लोगों ने सफलतापूर्वक गठबंधन बनाकर सत्ता में बैठे लोगों से सौदेबाजी की शक्ति छीन ली है। मजदूरों, किसानों, और हाशिए पर पड़े समूहों को एकजुट करके, इन आंदोलनों ने सुधारों की मांग की, अधिकार सुनिश्चित किए, और प्रणालीगत असमानताओं को चुनौती दी, यह साबित करते हुए कि सामूहिक कार्रवाई सत्ता के संतुलन को बदल सकती है और उत्पीड़ितों के लिए गरिमा वापस ला सकती है।
