दोस्तों, हममें से ज़्यादातर लोग जानते ही हैं कि एक खतरनाक, नफरत से भरी, लोगों को बांटने वाली, तानाशाहीपूर्ण विचारधारा ने पिछले कुछ सालों में हमारी ज़मीन पर अपने पैठ बना ली है| इसका हमला हमारे संविधान, सर्वोच्च न्यायालय, रिजर्व बैंक, प्रेस परिषद, प्रमुख जांच एजेंसियों तथा लोकतंत्र की अन्य मुख्य संस्थाओं पर हुआ है| ज़मीनी स्तर पर इसका असर अल्पसंख्यकों, आदिवासियों और दलितों की ज़िन्दगी पर पड़ रहा है| यहाँ तक कि इस समय में अलग राय रखने वाले कार्यकर्ताओं, वकीलों लेखकों, पत्रकारों, कलाकारों और छात्रों को छांट छांट कर सबक सिखाया गया| फंसाने के लिए जाल को उन लोगों तक भी फैलाया गया जो इस विशाल भूभाग के बहुलतावाद और विविधता में यकीन रखते हैं तथा जाति, वर्ण, धर्म, भाषा व लैंगिकता अलग होते हुए भी सबको समान मानते हैं| असलियत में यह विचारधारा हमारी नागरिकता के बुनियादी सिद्धांतों और हमारी सभ्यता पर हमला है|
हम इस बात से भी वाकिफ हैं कि इन ताकतों ने सत्ता हासिल करने के लिए अर्धसत्य, तोड़े मरोड़े हुए तथ्यों, झूठे प्रचार, उग्र देशभक्ति, तीखे राष्ट्रवाद और लगातार भय और नफरत पैदा करने के तरीकों का इस्तेमाल किया|
अब हमारे सामने जो सवाल है वह यह है कि हम इस रथ को कैसे रोकें ? इनके पास भारी आर्थिक संसाधन हैं, इनके पास इनका समर्थन करने वाली प्रचारक मीडिया है, और समर्थकों की एक फौज़ है जो इनकी विचारधारा को लागू करने और फ़ैलाने का काम करती है| यह समाज और पूरे भारत के लिए एक अभूतपूर्व संकट है|
हम जानते हैं कि यह संघर्ष लम्बा और कठिन है, इसे सामाजिक राजनैतिक, कानूनी सांस्कृतिक और मीडिया के स्तर पर करना होगा| लेकिन हम यह भी जानते हैं कि ऐसे अनेकों उदाहरण हैं जहां बहुत से लोग और संस्थाएं इनके खिलाफ बहादुरी और सफलतापूर्वक इन्हें चुनौती देने के लिए खड़े हुए हैं लेकिन फिर भी …. हम उम्मीद का दामन नहीं छोड़ सकते|
कार्यशाला के बारे में:
स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सांस्कृतिक, सामाजिक और आर्थिक स्तर पर कई लड़ाइयाँ हैं। एक तरफ बेरोजगारी समेत आर्थिक क्षेत्र में वर्तमान सरकार की विफलताओं के कृत्यों को सामने लाने की जरूरत है साथ ही सामाजिक स्तर पर नफरत और विभाजन फैलाने वाले कृत्यों का प्रेम और करुणा से मुकाबला करने की जरूरत है।
- चुनाव की वर्तमान प्रणाली और राजनीति के अपराधीकरण, ईवीएम से संबंधित मुद्दे, भारत निर्वाचन आयोग की भूमिका, मीडिया पर कब्ज़ा से संबंधित चिंताओं सहित प्रमुख चुनौतियों को समझना
- चुनाव की निगरानी के लिए नागरिक कैसे भाग ले सकते हैं?
- आरटीआई अधिनियम जैसे उपकरणों का उपयोग करने का ज्ञान |
- विविधता, समानता, स्वतंत्रता और न्याय का समर्थन करने वाले काउंटर और सकारात्मक आख्यानों की खोज।
- अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता, मीडिया का दमन, कानून का शासन और संस्थानों के हथियारीकरण के संदर्भ में गणतंत्र के लिए खतरों की प्रकृति को समझना।
- लोगों को प्रभावित करने वाले प्रमुख मुद्दों की पहचान करना जिनके इर्द-गिर्द अभियान चलाए जा सकते हैं- रोजगार, पूंजीवाद, कानून के शासन की आवश्यकता, सांप्रदायिक सद्भाव, श्रम कानून, स्वतंत्र संस्थानों और कानूनों को कमजोर करना जो लोगों को सशक्त बनाते हैं, खाद्य सुरक्षा आदि, मुद्दों पर विशेष जोर देने के साथ गरीबों और हाशिए पर रहने वाले समुदायों की
- विभिन्न नागरिक समाज के नेतृत्व वाली पहलों का परिचय
- प्रतिभागियों द्वारा अपनी आगे की कार्य योजना पर साझा करना कि वे निष्पक्ष चुनाव की दिशा में कैसे काम करना चाहते हैं, और एक सामूहिक कार्य योजना बनाना

Background
Friends, many of us are aware of the deep inroads that a dangerous hate-driven, divisive, and authoritarian ideology has made across our land in the last few years. There has been a systematic assault on the principles and ideals as enshrined in our Constitution,a dismantling of independent regulatory and investigative institutions, and the capture of the media. At the ground level, its impact on the lives of the minorities, Dalits and Tribals has been most felt. Dissenting voices of academics, activists, lawyers, journalists, writers, artists, and students have been singled out for retribution. The net has also spread to include all those people who believe in the plurality and diversity of this vast land, who believe in the equality of the law for all citizens beyond caste, creed, religion, language, and gender, and who believe in the freedom of speech. It’s time that we stand up against this fascist regime. Each individual in this struggle is guided by the Indian Constitution which promises liberty, equality, and justice to every citizen irrespective of caste, creed, religion and gender.
About the workshop
We endeavor to collectively work in this crucial period before the next elections on the necessary ideas and tools to combat fascist forces, with the people at the forefront of campaigns. To ensure free & fair elections, there are many battles at the cultural, social and economic levels. On the one hand, the acts of failures of the current government in the economic sector including unemployment issues need to be brought out. At the social level, the acts of commission of spreading hate and divisiveness need to be countered by love and compassion.
Objectives of the program:
The prime objective of the program is to enable people associated with various campaigns which have a vision of making an impact in the 2024 election.
- Understanding the present system of elections and the key challenges including concerns related to money power, criminalisation of politics, issues regarding EVMs, the role of ECI, the capture of media
- How can citizens participate to monitor elections
- Knowledge of how to use tools like the RTI Act
- Exploring the counter and positive narratives supporting diversity, equality, freedom, and justice.
- Understanding the nature of the threats to the republic in the context of, free speech, muzzling the media, the rule of law, and weaponization of institutions.
- Identifying key issues affecting people around which campaigns can be built- employment, crony capitalism, need for rule of law, communal harmony, labor laws, weakening of independent institutions and laws which empower people, food security, etc, with a special emphasis on issues of the poor and marginalised communities.
- Introduction of various civil society-led initiatives
- Sharing by participants on their further action plan as to how they intend to work towards fair elections, and creating a collective action plan.

Who is this workshop for: This workshop is for people involved in social activism for at least 3 years and are committed to spending their time and energy over the next few months on issues highlighted above aimed at reclaiming our republic.

Contribution towards program costs:
We hope that each participant would contribute an amount of Rs. 3000/- towards the workshop expenses, inclusive of all on-site workshop costs: boarding, lodging, and all the materials used in the workshop. Need-based partial waivers are available, especially for people from marginalized communities. We have a very limited number of partial waivers, so, please apply for a waiver only if you really need it. Please do remember that there may be others who need it more than you.
